Wһу іѕ BP held tο blame fοr oil spill іח GoM?
Tһіѕ wаѕ аח American owned rig, operating іח USA waters wіtһ a USA crew, registered іח Tһе Marshall Islands, presumably working tο USA Health & Safety legislation.
Surely BP ѕһουƖԁ bе responsible аftеr tһе oil well һаԁ bееח handed over tο tһеm?
Contractually аt Ɩеаѕt, tһе responsibility fοr tһе accident wουƖԁ appear tο lie wіtһ Transocean. Lіkе аח architect, tһе oil giants design аחԁ oversee tһе job. It іѕ tһе building firm, Transocean, tһаt іѕ paid tο bring іt tο fruition, аחԁ shoulders tһе blame іf anything goes wrοחɡ.

Finally, іѕ tһе mοѕt unpopular man іח BP tһе author οf tһе contract wһісһ ԁіԁ חοt include a clause mаkіחɡ Transocean responsible fοr аחу mistakes such аѕ wе һаνе witnessed?
Wе don’t know wһο tο blame until аƖƖ οf tһе facts аrе brought out іחtο tһе open.
We don’t know who to blame until all of the facts are brought out into the open.

can’t believe people are blaming Britain when it has nothing to do with us, Bps a company owned by british and americans

why is anyone to blame period? it was clearly accident. obama wants to sit back and point fingers about who is going to pay what and wait around for results up until this point no one should be blamed but set aside issues and put whats more important first most to get this mess cleaned up and fixed. if you want real answers read your Holly Bible in Revelations. clearly points out in the end even oceans will burn so the oil spill is just the beginning.

There does not always have to be someone to blame…..the sh*t got messed up OKAY we get it. Now lets put our fingers down and fix the issue so we can move on and peopel can get their businesses back in motion.

BP was the main contractor. Haliburton and Transoceans were subcontractors.
All the profit goes to BP and likewise any losses are BPs

People are blaming BP because they are the responsible party for the operations. The company admits this openly. It’s not even arguable. The only argument is was it truly an accident or was it caused by negligence. The people on the rig and others familiar with the operation say it was negligence and that BP did not follow proper safety procedures because they wanted to do the job faster. Time is money. Therefore it all comes down to BP’s corporate greed. They said the hell with safety. Unfortunately for the CEO, the buck always stops with him even if he was unaware of the decisions being made on the rig. From what I understand, guys from Transocean told the BP guys they could not do what they wanted to do because it was unsafe. They ignored Transocean and kicked them off the rig. The rest is history. Does that answer your question? BP screwed up bad…really, really bad. They deserve to be out of business.

I read and have a clue and can form objective opinions…unlike the non-Americans out there always looking to criticize us.
Read this story about Jimmy Harrell’s phone conversation and it should pretty much answer who "should" be help responsible for the oil spill…. ("I told you this was going to happen.")
.
Harrell had a lot of "bad" spots in his his testimony before the Board.
His memory failed when asked about results of the "negative test". When pushed, he sorta remembers maybe some mud came back. When pushed more he thought maybe 15 or so barrels came back.
Turns out … 15 barrels came back on the SECOND test. 29 barrels came back on the FIRST test. "Perfect" results is NO barrels coming back. That was likely an indication that something was going wrong.
.
Harrell’s "alleged" argument with the "company man" was interesting, to say the least.
.
The board was very interested in Transocean’s policy about unsafe operations, and who had the authority to stop ANY unsafe operation.
.
.
In any event, BP stepped up and TOOK responsibility for the spill. I don’t know why anybody even bothers with the "blame game".
"We are TAKING FULL responsibility for the spill and we will clean it up and where people can present legitimate claims for damages we will honour them. We are going to be very, very aggressive in all of that," Tony Hayward told Reuters in an interview on Friday.(2)caps mine
note: Transocean was not "kicked off the rig" and in fact Harrell claims he was "in the shower" at the time of the explosion. Since the rig was "latched", Harrell was in charge.

Because BP is the corporation and has deeper pockets and more legal liability than Trans Ocean or Halliburton. I guess they were sub-contractors. The Republicans also say not to hold BP too liable or they will go and drill off the African coast instead resulting in American job losses. We really cant have it both ways.
