We’re furious about it. Why do we allow the importation of goods not made under the same labor and environmental laws that we must abide by? How can we possibly compete against such an unlevel playing field?

The first thing a republican would tell us is, "There’s nothing we can do about it."

Wrong! There is plenty we can do about it.

    1. The US has not banned offshore drilling. It has placed a six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling.
    2. It affects currently 33 drilling sites. There are currently about 620 offshore platforms, so this will affect about 5% of rigs in the Gulf.

Outsourcing in the US started taking place in the 1980′s and has continued to grow every year. The presidents since then have done nothing to decrease it. George Bush’s administration outsourced everything from the building of jet fighters to microchips, etc. http://www.pacificprogressive.com/2010/0…

I guess you would rather not have any moratorium and end up dealing with 33 new sites of oil gushing into the Gulf.

You copy and paste your question, I’ll copy and paste my answer. Apparently, none of the facts you were given five minutes ago penetrated your brain.

Anywhere politicians fight to exempt American companies from paying taxes on overseas earnings and place the tax load on the middle class look for a Republican behind it. Anywhere you see a middle class person voting against their own interests and in favor of tax cuts for the wealthy at their own expense, look for the Republican mark of deceit and fear based politics.

Where in your article does it say that liberals are happy about this news?

If you’re going to generalize liberals, at least try to make it look like you have some evidence to go along with it. All you did here is just quote a story and then attempt to make some invalid political point.

Companies are moving overseas because it’s cheaper there and this is a free country and the companies have the right to conduct their business as they wish. If you have a problem with that, contact the CEO, not liberals.

Thanks for the two points. Next troll please!

You know, it’s hilarious to watch you guys spin this stuff. Please, allow me to explain. There was no end of outrage after the spill began at how Obama had forced people to drill in the deep ocean. There was no end of outrage at the fact that U.S. companies weren’t allowed to drill there (still aren’t, thanks to a bill passed under Bush), mainly because foreign companies tend to have a really bad track record when it comes to safety on rigs. And now, now that they’re leaving, you’re outraged again? So what outrage should I believe, exactly?

Two reasons why this doesn’t matter. First, they’ll come back. Why wouldn’t they? Cheap oil leases that U.S. companies can’t access means that they get to have control over a large chunk of the oil supply. That’s great for them, they wont just leave and give it up. Second, let’s say they do all leave. What, do you think Obama will just say "moratorium’s permanent"? That’s ridiculous. Instead, he’ll lift the ban on U.S. companies drilling out there. Before you know it, they’ll have their rigs in the Gulf. And U.S. companies have a far better track record of complying with safety measures than BP did. So why exactly is this bad? You pick the first reason, and everything goes back exactly the way it was. You pick the second reason, and everything gets changed for the better. How is this getting worse exactly?
