Are you assuming that BP has no American employees working on their American oil drilling and refining operations? That would be an odd stance for you to take…
In any case, the final responsibility (as BP executives, themselves, have stated) lies with BP, as they were the ones in control of most of the decisions in how that rig was run. Listen to the statements made by BP’s executives, and decide then if they are lying about it being their fault. For your attack to be valid, you would have to assume these executives are simply lying. And stupid.

BP appears to have been crassly negligent here and to have committed crimes. That being the case, it fully deserves the blame it’s getting, and the civil and possibly criminal liability. It is a given that the civil liability will be shared with the other responsible companies, as is typical in a case of this sort.
I don’t see that a simple minded woman’s radio comment is significant one way or the other. Nor do I see any purpose in nationalistic breast beating. Americans were fully as outraged at Exxon after the Exxon Valdez spill, even though Exxon is a domestic company. And as shocked by Union Carbide’s criminal malfeasance in Bhopal. This has nothing to with the UK and everything to do with greedy amoral companies that skirt safety regulations and break the law in an attempt to increase profits.

I agree with you to an extent, but I voted for President Obama and not because he is black.
What’s going on is the right-wing conservatives hate the President so much that they are blaming him for something that, as you point out, was absolutely not his fault. This was a huge corporate screw up, but their blind hatred of Obama has forced these people to take BP’s side. They either don’t realize or just don’t care that the man is not responsible for this disaster.
These same people who are usually screaming that the government should keep its hands off…everything… now want the government to fix this mess. Again, their hatred blinds them to simple common sense.
I do want to point out that when Princess Diana died, the Brits were indeed yelling about the Queen not doing anything.
Edit: Leon, I understand your point, but I think it is basically arrogance that causes Americans to be so ignorant (not the same as stupid) about other cultures. They just don’t care about anyone else and are sure their culture is the best; but without knowing much about other cultures, how can they be so sure of that?

until this disgusting display of negligence is corrected and NOT ONE PENNY should be added to the costs of any British Petroleum products to do it.

I don’t dislike or blame the average citizen of anywhere in the UK for this, nor does the Queen have anything to do with it, but I will bet a good bit of British banking is involved-The whores.

and id say US people are not stupid at all. im studying in australia and one of my classmates is from US. he is the best student in every course and now becomes our star student. he’s very contributive to every class and every teacher likes him… he’s equiped with very much and very diversified knowledge in nearly every field. i think from him i get some vision to american education quality.
another reason is they are wihtin the culture center. when a nation’s overall strength is highest, its culture becomes somewhat ‘premium’ as well, so people with that culture became ignorant about others’ culture. im from china and in a very long period of history we people thought we are the center of the world and never put any other cultures in our eyes. at that time china is socially and technically most advanced and economically most prosperous in the world, pretty same with US today. so it’s quite understandable to us chinese.

I would say your comment is very wrong. Not all Americans are "…stupid and so unbelievably arrogant". You could say the same of some people in any nation — stupidity and arrogance is not restricted to any one group (however you want to group them).
No matter what, some people are going to say and do stupid things. Even very intelligent people have been known to do stupid things.
As for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, BP owned the rig, BP made the contracts and BP hired the people, ergo BP is responsible. It is human nature to blame someone else when things go wrong (as they inevitably will at some point). It isn’t an admirable trait (trying to teach my eldest son to take responsibility for his actions, instead of blaming others for the results of his inaction, but I digress).
It is an environmental disaster and there are plenty more potential similar disasters around the world owned by US companies, Canadian companies, British companies, Dutch companies etc. Just, BP was the unlucky company this time. But it could happen to any oil company owned by any nation.
I think there’s an expression, "Don’t throw stones when you live in glass houses". Wasn’t Exxon a US company? Did they help clean up after their tanker went aground when the captain was drunk? As I recollect, the US based company didn’t accept full responsibility (and hey, correct me if I’m wrong!).

Joan, I’d hate to see you moderate yourself more. I find more and more that you give voice to things that I’m thinking but either can’t articulate because the words aren’t coming out right, or because I’m afraid of what will happen. Maybe once I have more seniority and feel like I’m on more stable footing, I’ll start to speak up more. as for land ownership, in more than a few countries you can never actually own the land. it’s merely leased to you by the government and can be seized again without warning or recourse. that seizure happens in the US as well, tho. it’s just given a nifty name to make it sound fair.
