Iח under Water welding іt іѕ a high skill job аѕ уου һаνе tο һаνе a commercial diving license аחԁ train аחԁ bе a ɡοοԁ welder іח arc welding MMA (Manual Metal Arc welding) wіtһ Arc welding уου саח аƖѕο υѕе аח electrode tһаt cuts tһе pipe bυt doesn’t give a сƖеаח сυt аѕ oxy & acetylene/propane cutting tһіѕ іѕ аƖѕο used underwater аt times. Bυt welding οח a rig іѕ very ԁаחɡеrουѕ аחԁ һаνе tο hav lots οf risk assessments іח рƖасе.

Welders can do all sorts off tasks like repair broken equipment which comes under maintenance.
There are also underwater welders which weld underwater things such as repair and also weld pipe lines. In under Water welding it is a high skill job as you have to have a commercial diving license and train and be a good welder in arc welding MMA (Manual Metal Arc welding) with Arc welding you can also use an electrode that cuts the pipe but doesn’t give a clean cut as oxy & acetylene/propane cutting this is also used underwater at times. But welding on a rig is very dangerous and have to hav lots of risk assessments in place.

There are two basic types of welders employed in the oil field. Pipe welders and structural welders. Most structural welders have not be certified to weld pipe but most pipe welders can also weld structural steel.
Depending on circumstances, pipe welder may also fit the pipe prior to welding it but their primary job is to weld the pipe. Because of their special skill and pay grade they seldom are employed to do anything else.

Let me guess- this was a government college or community college where those people there are not trained as in higher education colleges. This woman thought you were stupid or may have thought your questions were too much or you may be speaking too quickly. People on the phone when they get nervous speak very quickly. Having said that, she should have been more encouraging and had enough skills to deal with you.
