The regulations for offshore drilling came from a report and recommendation issued by Dick Cheney in the mid 1990s, spinning off decades of deregulation that started with Nixon.
I always said Bush would destroy the world. He didn’t quite make it, but the GOP seems to be taking up the challenge.

Whatever the timeframe, however many dollars, and however many presidents/parties have been involved, you raise a valid point. Until we cleanse the corruption and gladhanding, the workers in this industry will never be safe.

I don't think they are pretending – I think some of them just might not realize what they actually believe in. They might really believe they are atheist until they realize later on that that isn't at all what they believe. It just takes time and learning to figure out what you believe in. And the same goes for Christians. I am neither atheist nor Christian. I found my own belief. Some people may just be confused and lost until they find their own way of life and beliefs.
