Manpower.com is a company that will hire roughnecks.
If they don’t have any openings ask them for other companies that may be hiring.

i have no experience on the rigs, no degree, how do i go about it, what steps do i need to take,, and what sites are actually employing? etc.. help please

You would have to start at the bottom, possibly as a roustabout or in the mess.
There are some requirements, for example you will have to take the offshore survival course. It may be difficult to persuade an employer to pay for this due to your lack of qualifications.
Look up the oil service companies by Googling them and contact any you fancy. You will need to be persistent even to get an interview.
However, the rewards are good and you get a lot of free time if you go on a 2 on/2 off rota.

Ive been thinking about getting a job on an oil rig. From what ive read on the net, many people get employment without holding a specialist degree as they need people who are able. Ive been working in mostly constuction related jobs, want to do geology degree and now im looking into what jobs would be avaliable when i finish. Does anyone know what the working patterns are for people (starting out) with degrees are on an oil rig, compared to those without ? I know this is a bit of a vauge question as there are many different job roles, but generally do most workers have qualifications. Thanks

Level 1: Basic Plumbing
Level 2: General Plumbing
NVQ: Advanced Sanitation and Heating
Level 3: Gas

What are the chances of an Australian getting an oil/sands job in Canada?

A Canadian guy I met while travelling told me that even though I have no experience in the industry I would definetly find employment in Calagary or Alberta working on oil rigs or other related jobs. Can anyone tell me if this true? And if so where is the best place to start ?

hello. moving major distances for a new position in a new field for you, I’d guess you would start on a ‘related’ job, so they know of you a bit better. good luck, oil industry always needs/wants new workers :}

Whats going on with the Oil industry. I heard its suppost to start picking back up in august of this summer of 2009 but it don’t seem like it at all. nothing is happening yet for the rigs and oil field jobs. People are still on hiring freezes and alot of people are laid off in the oil fields here in north dakota. Nothing is moving and just wondering if its really suppost to start up anytime soon

No one can really tell when its coming back. Rig counts have dropped off more than 50 percent since the end of August last year.. Natural gas prices determine drilling and oilfield activity and prices are very low right now. High oil prices should stabilize the business, but it wont increase it much. It wont come back strong until natural gas prices increase, and inventories decrease. And I think thats going to be 2010 or later.. We have huge amounts of natural gas in storage and it usually increases in the summer months. With huge inventories and a weak economy I dont see the oilfield picking up significantly for a year or two. I grew up around the drilling business in several different states. So I can understand how you feel. Its always been a cyclical business. Busts happen about once a decade. It happened in the 60s, 80s and 90s. It skipped the 70s because the embargos and shortages kept prices up. We paid for it in the 80s with one of the worst busts. Some people, who had worked in the oilfield for decades left the business never to work in it again in their careers. And some of the largest and oldest companies went out of business. And a few banks. This bust is the worst since then. The oilfield isnt dead, its just dormant..

I am looking for a job on an oil rig off Aberdeen at entry level, either as a steward or general labourer

there,s no such thing as a general labourer offshore unless its with the likes of a pressure jetting firm, as its standard practice for everyone to keep the workplace tidy, its a housekeeping rule.
you generally need a recognised trade to work offshore but as you are interested in being a steward then do a google search for offshore caterers and bang your cv in to them
try firms such as
universal sodhexo
ccg
those two are just a few.
try the offshore employment agencies, again google search as this is shutdown season when many platforms are up-manning and need stewards to cope with the influx
