How do I go about getting a job on an offshore oil rig?

Are there any industry specific job seeking websites? Are there any requirement that I need to meet to be eligible?

Some background information about me:
I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami in 2006 and have had job experience in sales, construction, and the legal industry. In the fall of 2009 I dropped out of my first year of law school. I cant really stand office work and am looking for something physical where I can make a decent living. My mother’s cousin (who I don’t know) works on an offshore rig and after reading into it I became interested.

So if anybody has any advice on where I can go or what I can do to make this a reality. Let me know. Thanks

Going to be real tough right now thanks to obama and sillyczar. There are about 12000 experienced hands out there drawing unemployment waiting to get back to work and no real hopes of it happening any time soon.

I would advise maybe looking into some of the service companies websites and their career listings. As you spend time there you can progress towards the OS end of things while networking with customers and rig hands. You might find something you like better.

i`m ex-seaman, looking for rejoin in oil rig worker(even at entry level)looking for correct guidelines,one of OIL RIG.COM named co. is asking for $300.00 to give me bunch of sites address for oil rig companies.just for applying for job.what should i do?

Qualifications for Offshore Rig Welder?

I plan on becoming a offshore welder and wondering what the qualifications are? My qualifications would be 2 years of welding expierence and a fabrication certificate and was wondering if that is enough to get a job on an offshore oil rig.

Just like any job, I’m sure each company has their own standards. You would have to contact each company to find out.

I would like to work on an offshore oil rig and I am interested how I go about?
I am a mecanic by trade but I can do many things, including welding, tool and die, machine shop, construction, I worked previously in a foundry (aluminum) and as a pumps mechanic in a paper plant.

You need a copy of the Aberdeen press and journal, all the rig jobs are advertised there. It’s online

is it possible to get a student internship on a offshore dilling platform while in school and second what kinds of jobs could i get on a platform with a mechanical engineering degree and what is the pay
are there engineering internship programs available on drilling platforms offshore or on or do you need to go to a special school if so what are some names for some of the schools

Yes, I’m a supporter of it. The left-wingers believe it should stop because "it only benefits the corporations" and will destroy the environment, but how many major oil spills have there been in the past decade? Plus, the oil rigs promote jobs. If we stop offshore oil drilling, hundreds of thousands of workers lose their jobs and the unemployment rate will skyrocket. Last time I checked, BO’s "goal" was to decrease unemployment, yet he wants to close down the oil rigs? Hmmmm….
Searching for new alternative energy resources is much more expensive. I’m a supporter of a clean environment and play my part in protecting it, but this BP spill was a result of poor construction on the rig and the government overlooking the activity on it. If proper inspection is done on other offshore oil rigs, another incident like this can be prevented in the future.

I support it for a lot of the same reason’s you do. Most of the fisherman in the gulf oppose the ban it as well because they worked for themselves and for the companies on the off season, so now they get a double whammy.

We will still get oil, and these rigs would just be left dormant, only for those to be opened up in international waters or overseas. If we continue to have these rigs be shut down, than the President should open or give permits for shallow water drilling which is must safer and not as esthetically impact as one is lead to believe. It was the Sierra Club and environmentalist wackos who promoted deep sea drilling which created more risk to the environment than shallow water drilling or even drilling on land.

Obama is an incompetent leader and has no clue what it takes to be President of the United States, next time the liberals and those that voted out of racism should think twice and actually listen to the actual campaigns, (not the smears). If they voted for Obama because of who he is and they actually knew who he was and what his plan was, than this country is in even more serious trouble. I would then have to realize we already have become a non-christian, communist nation.

Entry level if that makes a difference. I cannot find anything on offshore oil rig workers schedule’s. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places? I see the pay is great but I’d like to know if I would be away just as long as I would in the Navy. Any intel on this job would be appreciated.

If you work in on a Norwegian rig you work one week on and Six weeks off.

I want to work offshore on an oil rig, and I think I understand most of the implications. I don’t get seasick and as my parents are divorced and I spend the holidays with my dad, I’m OK with being away from home.
I’m really good at science, and I’m doing maths, biology, chemistry and physics at school. English and history as well but I didn’t think they were as relevant. I plan to go to university after school.
So would a medical degree allow me to get a job as an oil rig medic, with no experience? I wondered, cause they all seem to talk about paramedic qualifications. I’m fairly sure you get experience working in a hospital as part of the degree so would that be enough?

Paramedic certification/license and a medical degree are two very different things. while a doctor may outrank a paramedic in the medical world, most doctors are useless outside of a well lit building with tons of medical equipment around them. Paramedics have specialized training for out of hospital emergencies and an experienced medic will be very resourceful and knowledgeable, while a med school graduate will be booksmart, have no real experience and by most of the medical community considered more of a liability than a help. by the time you become a physician with enough experience to work on an oil rig, it won’t be worth financially.
the only exception to this would possibly be recent med school graduate who is also a paramedic

i am tying to get a job on entry level on oil rigs but have no experience looking for contacts or training to help enhance my chances can anyone help?

Two of my mates work on rigs, it is one of those jobs you can only get if you know somebody in the industry already so unless you do then it is v difficult to get into it.
